Rick Friedman

Rick Friedman has been a photojournalist for over four decades. Based in Boston, he travels the world for publications, corporations, advertising assignments, and film and television productions. His published work has appeared in National Geographic, Time, Newsweek, The New York Times, Nature, USA Today, The Guardian, Der Spiegel, Stern, Discover, and many other publications. His photographs have appeared on CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, Nightline, 60 Minutes, Saturday Night Live and in numerous documentaries, He has produced over 75 book and magazine covers. Rick has photographed every presidential candidate from Jimmy Carter to Joe Biden.

Rick has been teaching his “Location Lighting Workshops” for over 16 years, across the US, Canada, UAE, and the UK. Rick has taught thousands of people his style of practical lighting. Workshop sponsors have included PPA, ASMP, The Societies of Photographers, Xposure, Tamron, Savage, Columbia College, Hunts Photo, Unique Photo, MidWest Photo, Dynalite, PocketWizard, ExpoImaging, Rosco, LensBaby, and ThinkTank Photo.

Rick is a Tamron Lens Ambassador and a Savage Universal Ambassador. He has presented his“Location Lighting Workshops” on “Creative Live, B&H TV, Adorama TV, and on many podcasts and webinars.

Rick has won awards from the American Society of Media Photographers, the National Press Photographers Association, and the Boston Press Photographers Association and is the past President of the Boston Press Photographers Association. He has work in the permanent collection of Harvard University, Oxford University, and the Newseum.

Rick has photographed several thousand authors, professors, and scientists for publications and for major universities. His archives contain one of the largest private collections of portraits of noted academics.
